I think that Rock Operas aren't immediately superior or inferior to other music because of this very reason.On Jan. I'd go so far to say that every Great album is more than a collection of singles. There are a lot of albums that are much much more than a collection of singles. I'd also throw in Kendrick Lamar's Good Kid, m.A.A.d city and The Streets' A Grand Don't Come for Free as albums that tell a coherent story. More or less, every track on these two albums is directly related to the story. Tommy by The Who and Broken Bride by Ludo are two that stand out in my mind, as far as albums that tell a complete story. There are Rock Operas that do tell stories. I'm not very familiar with the other two albums you mentioned, so I can't really say anything about them. Pepper a rock opera since it contains a few tracks that are in character.

A lot of the tracks don't tie into the "narrative at all." Again, an amazing album, but I never understood why people call it a rock opera. It's an amazing album, I love it to death, but it's more of a concept album than a rock opera. I challenge anyone to tell me the story of Ziggy Stardust. Ziggy Stardust kind of tells a story, but it mostly just contains references to characters and repeated themes. The problem I have with "Rock Operas" is that they frequently don't tell a coherent story.
